This time the Turks have gone too far!!!

Our neighbors have made many provocations by violating the airspace of Greece continually and also the statements that they made in front of Hagia Sophia celebrating the Fall of Istanbul a few days ago, with the Imam saying that he is waiting for the day that he will pray in the Hagia Sophia reading the Koran.

Something that a few days ago we were thinking that this was just one more statement from them.  But as we see now it wasn’t just a statement, but an announcement of something planned.

From this morning, the Imam is reading the Koran, every day at 2a.m. through the Hagia Sophia and it will be broadcast by the Turkish TRT Diyanet channel under “sahur”, the morning pray before the start of fasting.  And this is going to happen every day throughout Ramadan from 6 June to 7 July.

Although the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned this action of the Turks with the following statement:
“We condemn that is regressive the announcement of the Turkish authorities for the planning of reading the Koran in Hagia Sophia in Istanbul for the period of Ramadan.

Obsessions that are touching the limits of bigotry to Muslims rites in a World Heritage Site is incomprehensible and show disrespect.  Moreover such actions are not compatible with a modern, democratic and secular societies”, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Nick Xidakis said:

“It is not disrespect the to read the Koran in Hagia Sophia”!

We are waiting now to see what the Greek government will do about this.  Are they going to do something about this issue or they will leave it this way so not to upset out neighbors, the Turks!!!
