On Saturday July 30, a Brain Cancer Benefit Concert is taking place in support of the
Sydney Neuro-Oncology Group(SNOG) Research Program which is housed at the
Kolling Institute of Medical Research on the Royal North Shore Hospital Campus.
Brain cancer is the biggest cancer killer of children under 15 years and adults under 39 and the second biggest cancer killer (behind breast cancer) of females aged 0-44. The most common form is almost 100% fatal.
It is very important that we get the message out to the general public. Awareness of these appalling statistics is low.
Dr Raymond Cook and Dr Michael Biggs, neurosurgeons, established SNOG in 2000 in order to further support their patients through research, education and patient support programs and are members of a most eminent neuro- team, treating patients from all over Sydney and beyond.
Getting the message out about their charity work through the establishment of SNOG and devoting 16 years to date, to finding solutions for their brain cancer patients is also important. Success in the SNOG lab will obviously have worldwide ramifications.
The Kolling Institute of Medical Research although on the North Shore, is under the auspices of Sydney University and the SNOG researchers are Sydney University researchers.
3 members of the SNOG Board, including the co-founders and also eminent Medical Oncologist, Associate Professor Helen Wheeler are all graduates of Sydney University’s School of Medicine.
Under these circumstances, The Seymour Centre seemed the appropriate venue choice for the concert.
100% of donations to SNOG are directed to 3 PILLARS- Research, Education and Patient Support.
I encourage you to visit www.snog.org.au
