Officer run over by utility at Heatherton

Police are investigating following a police officer of being run over by a utility at Heatherton overnight.

Police and emergency services responded to reports a driver slumped over the steering wheel of a utility at a fast food outlet at the intersection of Warrigal Road and Kingston Road, Heatherton about 12.20am this morning.

Officers alerted the driver of their presence and it’s alleged the man reversed into an ambulance and police car before driving forward over a police member.

The utility then drove off, north, along Warrigal Road.

The vehicle was not displaying number plates at the time.

The male constable, from a Southern Metro Region police station, was taken to The Alfred hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators have released image/s of a vehicle that was seen in the area at the time and believe the driver may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The vehicle is believed to be a dark coloured Ford Ranger, open tray dual cab utility, with the roof and left hand doors sprayed silver.
