Man drowns at Gymea Bay

A man has died after being pulled from the water at Gymea Bay.

Just before 5am today (Monday 13 March 2017), emergency services were called to the vicinity of Gymea Bay Baths, on Ellesmere Road, Gymea Bay.

Police have been told a 27-year-old man had been fishing with a friend, before jumping into the water for a swim.

As he began to struggle in the water, the man’s 28-year-old friend jumped into to the water and attempted to rescue him.

The 28-year-old managed to pull the man to the water’s edge, before local residents commenced CPR until emergency services took over, but he was unable to be revived.
Officers attached to Sutherland Local Area Command secured the scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
