EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NEW WINES OF GREECE EVENTS NATIONALLY NEXT WEEK
More than 1000 litres of Greek wine has landed ready to be poured at more than 25 masterclasses, tastings, dinners and lunches across Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide commencing this Monday 20 June. On their way to Australia are winemakers and representatives from the leading wineries of the oldest growing region in the world. They will be joined by Yiannis Karakasis MW and Grigoris Michailos, who are travelling especially from Athens to lead a series of Greek wine education events. There is still room at the general trade tastings in Sydney and Melbourne on Monday 20 June and Thursday 23 June respectively, where more than 60 wines will be available for tasting from the 20 wineries, with the opportunity to meet and discuss them with the winemakers. Masterclasses being held as part of the trade tastings have been hugely popular this year and now have wait lists for registration in every session. The sessions include: A Wine Odyssey Part 1 and 2 Greece from North to South; The Rising Stars Emerging Greek varieties; and For the love of Assyrtiko: from Santorini all over the world, where participants will be treated to a taste of the only Australian produced Assyrtiko from owner and manager of Jim Barry Wines in the Clare Valley, Peter Barry. Wine educator Yiannis Karakasis MW said the wines available are an excellent selection showcasing many of the indigenous varietals that many are now learning about from Greece. “We cannot wait to spend another week in beautiful Australia sharing so many exciting wines with industry members, media, and wine enthusiasts in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide,” Karakasis said.
