A man will face court today after allegedly assaulting and attempting to rob a man and a woman in Surry Hills yesterday.
About 2pm (Tuesday 11 August 2015), a man and a woman were walking along Devonshire Street, Surry Hills, when they were approached from behind by a man.
The man allegedly assaulted the pair and pushed them to the ground, before producing a knife and threatening them.
The pair managed to get up and run from the location, while the armed man walked toward Central Railway Station empty-handed.
Police from Surry Hills Local Area Command attended the location and established a crime scene.
Officers arrested the man a short time later when he was recognised further down Devonshire Street.
The 35-year-old man was taken to Surry Hills Police Station and charged with assault with intent to rob, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and armed with intent to commit indictable offence. He was also charged over an outstanding matter.
He has been refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 12 August 2015).
