Suspicious fire, Surfers Paradise

Police are investigating following a suspicious fire at a vacant apartment block in Surfers Paradise last night.

Around 8.20pm police and emergency services were called to the abandoned unit complex on The Esplanade following reports that one of the units was engulfed by fire.

Fire services extinguished the fire before it spread to other areas of the building.

The fire caused extensive damaged to the building.

The unit complex was vacant at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

The fire is being treated as suspicious and crime scene has been established with investigations into the cause of the fire continuing.
