Woman charged over alleged counterfeit offence – Port Stephens

A woman has been charged following an investigation into counterfeit currency in the greater Newcastle area.
Detectives from Port Stephens Local Area Command commenced an investigation earlier this month after numerous businesses in the local area reported receiving counterfeit currency.
As a result of inquiries, a 30-year-old woman was arrested on William Street, Raymond Terrace, about 12.45pm yesterday (Friday 14 August 2015).
The woman was charged with utter counterfeit money knowing it to be counterfeit.
She has been granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 31 August 2015.
Port Stephens detectives have previously charged two men – aged 33 and 24 – over counterfeit offences. They are currently before the courts.
As investigations continue, police are urging consumers and businesses to pay close attention to the notes in their possession, and check for all security features.
