WHO BURNED THE CHRISTMAS TREE IN BANKSTOWN-SYDNEY? Police investigate suspicious Christmas tree fire

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fire damaged a Christmas exhibition in Bankstown overnight.

About 12.40am (Monday 23 November 2015), emergency services were called to Chapel Road, Bankstown, after reports a Christmas tree was alight.

Officers from Bankstown Local Area Command attended and the blaze was extinguished by Fire & Rescue NSW.

The fire caused about 1m of damage to the branches of the tree and significant damage to the electrical system powering the tree.

Police are investigating the cause of the blaze and are treating it as suspicious.

CCTV will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
