Police allege they located prohibited weapons, illegal drugs and an improperly restrained toddler after stopping a car in Sydney’s west yesterday.
Officers from Penrith Local Area Command pulled over the red Holden Commodore on Rosewood Way at Werrington about 12.10pm (Tuesday 13 October 2015).
Their intention was to submit the driver to a random breath test. However, when officers noticed a 30cm knife next to the driver’s seat, they decided also to search the vehicle.
During the search, police seized a working stun gun disguised as an iPhone, along with quantities of methylamphetamine (“Ice”) and an allegedly stolen iPod.
There were three people in the vehicle at the time – two men and a 20-month-old boy. Police will allege the child was not restrained in an appropriate seat.
The toddler is now in the care of family.
Checks of the 20-year-old driver’s details revealed he is disqualified from driving.
The man returned a negative breath test, but allegedly failed a sobriety test. He was arrested and taken to Nepean Hospital for blood and urine testing.
Later, at Penrith Police Station, the man was charged with:
– Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit;
– Custody of knife in public place;
– Supply prohibited drug;
– Possess prohibited drug;
– Drive with child not restrained as prescribed;
– Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen; and
– Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
He was refused bail to appear in Penrith Local Court today (Wednesday 14 October 2015).
Police also arrested the male passenger, but he was released pending further investigation.
