Operation North Invoice nets over 4kg of ICE

QUEENSLAND

Detectives from the State Crime Command Organised Crime Investigation Unit and the Australian Crime Commission have allegedly uncovered more than 4kg of the drug ICE and cash during raids on Brisbane’s south side yesterday.

Police located the 4.2kg of ICE during the execution of a search warrant at an unoccupied unit in Mount Gravatt.

They also located $17,000 in cash after another search warrant was executed at a Compton Road business in Sunnybank Hills.

Detective Inspector Lance Vercoe from the Organised Crime Investigation Unit said that the seizure comes as a result of investigators following a number of lines of inquiry that resulted from the successful closure of Operation North Invoice on June 29.

“The drug syndicate was based in Brisbane’s south, utilising a series of unoccupied apartments where drugs and cash were stored before their distribution to a number of street level dealers as far away as the Sunshine Coast,” Detective Inspector Vercoe said.

“Drug offenders renting units in residential areas to store and distribute drugs create a number of risks to neighbouring tenants. If the unconventional movements of your neighbours is of a concern then we would encourage you to contact Crime Stoppers.

“The results highlight the abilities of both the Queensland Police Service and the Australian Crime Commission to complement each other’s operational activities and the determination of law enforcement to identify and arrest those involved in the trafficking of dangerous drugs,” Detective Inspector Vercoe said.

Australian Crime Commission acting State Manager for Queensland, Ron Ladlay, said that Operation North Invoice sent a strong message to those involved in the organised crime and illicit drug trade.

“Australian law enforcement agencies are more united than ever and we will continue to work aggressively to pursue anyone who takes part in illegal activity,” Mr Ladlay said.

A 40-year-old Forrestdale man has been charged with a variety of drug related offences including trafficking in commercial quantities of ICE and being a member of criminal association under the VLAD legislation.  He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on August 12.
