Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a takeaway pizza store in North Strathfield last night.

About 8.40pm (Monday 24 August 2015), three men entered the store on Concord Road with their faces covered and armed with knives and an axe.

Two of the men ran towards the counter where a 42-year-old man was working, while the third man stood guard at the entrance to the store.

The employee saw the armed men approaching and he ran out the back door. A 22-year-old man who was inside the premises waiting for his pizza was threatened with a knife while they attempted to open the cash register.

Their attempts were unsuccessful and the three armed men left the store empty handed.

Police were called and a crime scene was established by officers from Burwood Local Area Command.

An investigation is now underway and police would like to speak with anyone who may have information that can assist.

All three men have been described as Middle eastern/Mediterranean in appearance and aged between 20 and 30.
